dsh-pet-companion: A Floating Desktop Pet for DeepSeek Harness
hasan-aghayev/dsh-pet-companion
A floating desktop pet for DeepSeek Harness that switches poses with agent activity and supports a local, folder-based pet library.
dsh-pet-companion is a DSH plugin that gives DeepSeek Harness a desktop companion, so you can see what the agent is doing while it runs in the background. It turns idle, working, waiting or review, and error states into pet poses inside a separate transparent window that stays visible even when DSH is minimized. It ships with the built-in pet Lokki, grows through a folder-based local pet library, and accepts either animation atlases or a single transparent portrait, with preferences and artwork kept on your machine.

What Does It Do?
DSH Pet Companion is a DSH plugin for DeepSeek Harness that turns agent activity into a floating desktop pet living in its own transparent window. It solves the problem of not being able to see what an agent is doing while the harness runs in the background: the pet switches between idle, working, waiting or review, and error poses as DSH events change, and stays visible even when DSH is minimized. Maintained by hasan-aghayev and written in JavaScript, it ships with the built-in pet Lokki and a folder-based library you can keep growing.
Core Features
- Dedicated desktop window: the pet gets its own movable, transparent window that keeps showing while DSH is minimized and reacts to agent lifecycle events.
- Hover controls and right-click menu: hover reveals Settings, a text composer, and Close pet; right-clicking opens Settings, Next pet, and Close pet.
- Sidebar visibility switch: the DSH sidebar's Show pet toggle hides or restores the companion without disabling the plugin, and closing the pet turns that switch off too.
- Appearance and behavior settings: appearance, language, size, opacity, always-on-top, reduced-motion, and wandering options, following DSH's English or Chinese locale by default.
- Pet library without reinstalling: drop a new pet folder into the Pet library directory and it is discovered automatically, with no rebuild or reinstall.
- Two artwork formats: Hatch-Pet v2 animation atlases, or a single transparent PNG/WebP portrait with a gentle breathing motion.
How to Use This Plugin?
After enabling it in DSH, the pet appears in its own desktop window; a graphical desktop is required, and WSL2 users need WSLg enabled. Open Settings with the gear button or by double-clicking the pet, and use Show pet in the DSH sidebar to bring back a hidden companion. The text composer sends the entered message to the most recently active live DSH session through DSH's public agent API; press Enter to send and Shift+Enter for a new line. To add a pet, open the Pet library folder from Settings and create one folder per pet containing a pet.json manifest and its artwork, with the folder name matching the manifest id; new folders are discovered within seconds, or press Refresh to rescan immediately. Atlases use a 1536 x 2288 pixel, 8-column by 11-row layout with the matching sprite version, while portraits declare the portrait format and image path, capped at 25 MiB and 4096 x 4096 pixels. Pet art, preferences, window position, and session IDs stay on the local machine, and the plugin only observes agent lifecycle and approval or question events, never conversation text, files, or credentials.
How to Troubleshoot This Plugin?
If the pet window never opens, confirm you are on a graphical desktop and, on WSL2, enable WSLg as described in the official instructions. If a newly added pet does not show up, check that the folder name matches the manifest id exactly, that image paths stay inside the pet folder, and that images stay within the size and dimension limits, then press Refresh to rescan. If the companion seems to have vanished, restore it with the Show pet switch in the DSH sidebar; closing the pet also turns that switch off, while the plugin itself stays enabled.
