dsh-boot-animation: A Video Boot Animation for DeepSeek Harness
alice-marx/dsh-boot-animation
A DSH plugin that replaces the startup page with a local video and dissolves into the app, with configurable playback, fade timing and click-to-enter controls.
dsh-boot-animation is a DSH plugin that swaps the plain kernel boot page of DeepSeek Harness for a full-window local video and then dissolves into the app. It gives every launch a personal touch: set one clip as the opener or enable several for random playback, while tuning fade duration, entry mode, and sound. The plugin leaves DSH core source untouched, is maintained in JavaScript by the community, stores settings in the host profile system, and copies imported clips into its own video folder while leaving originals intact.

What Does It Do?
Boot Animation is a DSH plugin for DeepSeek Harness that replaces the kernel boot page with a full-window local video clip and then dissolves into the app. It solves the problem of a plain, non-personalized startup screen by letting you pick a clip or play a random one, with control over fade timing, entry mode, and sound. The plugin does not modify DSH core source, is written in JavaScript, and is maintained by Alice-Marx as a community plugin.
Core Features
- Video boot screen: swaps the default startup page for a local video, accepting imports up to 256 MiB, with one clip set as the startup clip or several enabled for random playback.
- Three entry modes:
taildissolves at clip end, endfades after playback, andclickloops until the user presses to enter. - Adjustable fade:
fadeMsdefaults to 2000 ms within a 300–5000 ms range, with UI presets of 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, and 4000 ms. - Clip pool control:
disabledClipsdisables clips by filename, enabledacts as the master switch, andsoundplusshowHintgovern audio and the entry hint. - Host-native configuration: settings live in the profile configuration and a plugin patch file under the
boot-animationnamespace, with no separate .env or JSON settings loader.
How to Use This Plugin?
After enabling it in DSH, open Settings → Plugins → Boot Animation to import a video, set one clip as the startup clip, or enable several for random playback. Preview applies current settings immediately; for the next startup, reload the Web page or fully quit from the tray and reopen on Desktop. Imported videos are copied into the plugin's video folder under the profile data directory while the original file stays untouched, and because package upgrades may replace bundled assets, importing through the UI is preferred.
How to Troubleshoot This Plugin?
If a Desktop upgrade reports the package as already installed, fully quit from the tray first and use the official Desktop bundled wrapper rather than an older global command-line tool. On Windows the wrapper path differs from the default install location, so adjust it to your actual installation; when using a custom DSH_HOME, keep that variable when running the command. A fresh install auto-registers the scoped bundle, so do not manually insert a second bundle entry.
